FRIDAY WEATHER: One more dry day before thunderstorms return to the forecast. It’ll be warmer today, with temperatures pushing to 86 degrees and humidity levels rising. But it’ll be mostly sunny, as rain chances are held at bay. Tonight, clouds will begin to increase under humid conditions.
There’s an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms both tomorrow and Sunday. Deep moisture will surge northward from the Gulf as a low pressure system moves across the Midwest. This will result in very moist, humid air for our region. We may see rain showers as soon as tomorrow morning, but there’ll be a better chance of storms (and, depending on how strong they are, a slight risk of some isolated flooding) tomorrow night. It won’t rain all day Saturday, but multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms appear likely. Rain chances will continue into Sunday, as well.
NEXT WEEK: Shortwave troughing will keep daily rain chances in our forecast through at least the first half of next week. Rain totals probably won’t be too impressive, but there’ll be a threat of rain every day. Temperatures will be in the low 80s to start the week, rising into the upper 80s later in the week.
FURTHER OUT: Above-normal temperatures appear likely next weekend and beyond. August is setting up to be a warmer-than-average month, from all appearances. Rainfall should be near normal, or perhaps slightly below normal.
RIVER CONDITIONS: Streamflows are near normal for this time of year — just above 200 cubic feet per second (cfs) on the Big South Fork River, and around 40 cfs further upstream on Clear Fork. Water clarity is excellent. Water temperatures dipped somewhat yesterday due to cooler temperatures and will dip even more today. Still, we’ll get above 80 degrees during the peak of afternoon heating.
TROPICAL WATCH: No activity is expected in the Atlantic basin for at least the next 7 days — good news for late-season beach vacationers and interests along the Gulf and East coasts. That also means there’s little to watch to break up the mundane weather in our neck of the woods.
