HUNTSVILLE | As Dennis Jeffers prepares to transition from the office of Huntsville mayor to Scott County mayor, Jaimi Lloyd will fill the vacancy Jeffers is leaving for the next two years.
The town’s bylaws dictate that in the event of a vacancy, the vice mayor will fill the role until the next election. Lloyd is currently the town’s vice mayor, and the town’s next election is November 2028.
Scott County Administrator of Elections Gabe Krahn confirmed that a special election will not be necessary due to the town’s bylaws. Jeffers confirmed Monday that Lloyd will step into the mayor’s role until November 2028.
Lloyd has been a Huntsville alderman for the past 10 years, winning election to the board at the same time that Jeffers became the town’s mayor.
Earlier this month, Jeffers was elected Scott County mayor. He will assume office on Sept. 1.
Jeffers will become the 25th person to serve as Scott County mayor, though the office has also been called county executive and county judge through the years.
