Late hospital administrator’s widow contributes to nursing education at TCAT

HUNTSVILLE | Paula Leftwich, wife of Big South Fork Medical Center CEO Hal Leftwich, has contributed $5,000 to TCAT Oneida/Huntsville’s scholarship fund in her late husband’s memory, the college announced last week.

Hal Leftwich was originally from eastern Kentucky and spent his career in hospital administration, working at various facilities throughout the South before landing at Big South Fork Medical. He moved to Oneida from the Florida Keys to accept a position with Rennova Health. He passed unexpectedly in September 2025, at age 69.

Leftwich’s wife set up the contribution on behalf of the Leftwich family, saying that nursing education “was something that was very important” to her late husband.

The funds will be used to provide scholarship funds to practical nursing students at TCAT. The college trains LPNs both at its main campus in Huntsville and its satellite campus in Jamestown. The class is a rigorous 12-month program that begins each September, preparing students to pass their NCLEX as licensed practical nurses.

TCAT also recently announced a similar contribution from Mountain People’s Health Councils, also to fund nursing scholarships.
