Medical emergency at Honey Creek draws response from first responders

ROBBINS | Rumors on social media that a person had fallen from the Honey Creek Overlook viewing platform in the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area Sunday evening turned out to be incorrect.

An incident at the overlook, located near the Scott-Fentress county line, drew an emergency response from the National Park Service and supporting agencies. However, Big South Fork NRRA Superintendent Niki S. Nicholas said the call was medical in nature, and that the person needing help wound up walking out under their own power.

Reports from the scene indicated that a hiker had become ill and unable to climb the steep ladder leading back to the overlook.
