MONDAY WEATHER: 🌧️ Our forecast today is very similar to our forecast yesterday — a 70% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, with a high of about 85 degrees. Even though many of us did not see rain yesterday, the temperatures felt amazing after a week in the frying pan, and today will hopefully be very similar if we can manage some cloud cover like we did yesterday. Like yesterday, the thunderstorm coverage will be difficult to predict. Chances are that coverage will be sparse; very hit-or-miss, like yesterday. Obviously our region has been winners in the hit-or-miss rainfall department for the past 8 days so it’s difficult to complain too much, but any rain will be welcome.
THE REST OF THE WEEK: Thunderstorms will again be likely tomorrow afternoon, then we’ll have a little bit of a break from the rain chances with only slight chances of afternoon storms Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will generally be in the mid 80s for highs.
THE WEEKEND: Thunderstorms will become likely again Friday and Saturday, as better organized energy rotates through our region. We’ll probably see thunderstorm chances persist into Sunday. Temperatures will continue to run right about average for this time of year — in the mid 80s.
FURTHER OUT: Next week is shaping up to be hot and dry. The second half of July looks pretty typical for this time of year: hot but (hopefully) not too hot, with near daily chances for scattered afternoon showers and storms.
RIVER CONDITIONS: The Big South Fork River will drop below 700 cubic feet per second (cfs) this morning, but that’s still above the 75th percentile, meaning the river flows this high on this date less than 25% of the time. Clear Fork is running above 250 cfs — also above the 75th percentile. Water clarity is sub-optimal but improving. Water temperatures topped out at about 76 degrees yesterday and should make a run at 80 degrees today. Water levels are just about right for a recreational paddling trip (be sure to know the stretch of river you’re paddling if you aren’t experienced!).
