MONDAY WEATHER: Today will be another hot one, but a major pattern change is underway. We’ll probably hit 90 degrees once again today, which will make an incredible 14 out of 21 days this month if we do, but it will be our last 90-degree day for at least a while, and likely our last of the year, as summer finally comes to an end. We’ll also see a 30% chance of scattered thunderstorms this afternoon.

THE REST OF THE WEEK: Rain will become likely tonight and remain likely through Wednesday, as we see a cold front sweep through, followed by upper level energy that will keep rain chances going for a few days. We probably won’t see much rain, but the far bigger story will be cooler temperatures. We’ll only be in the low 80s tomorrow, then we’ll be in the mid 70s the rest of the week. Nighttime lows will range from the mid 50s to the low 60s. Thursday and Friday will see rain chances drop back to only slight possibilities.

THE WEEKEND: Nice weather looks to be in store for the weekend, with lots of sun and temperatures in the low to mid 70s.

NEXT WEEK: We’ll warm back up early next week, likely getting into the low 80s. However, another cold front will sweep through later in the week. The evolution of this one will be interesting to watch. Depending on how it comes together, we could see significant rainfall, or very little rain. Another shot of cooler temperatures are likely in its aftermath, and we may top out only in the 60s for a day or two. The first half of October currently looks a little wet, relative to normal, with temperatures that are pretty close to normal.

RIVER CONDITIONS: Below-average streamflows continue despite Friday’s thunderstorms. The Big South Fork River is flowing at 50 cubic feet per second (cfs) while New River is around 20 cfs and Clear Fork is about 10 cfs. Water temperatures continue to top out in the mid 80s during the peak of afternoon heating. The summer swimming season will end this week, however, with the arrival of milder temperatures.

TROPICAL WATCH: The sixth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season is Tropical Storm Fay on the high seas. However, she’ll weaken as she drifts southwest, and is unlikely to be a threat to the U.S. Another disturbance is expected to develop off the eastern seaboard late this week, which could prove interesting for portions of the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast, but chances of significant impact are really low, and it won’t impact our area.

TODAY: Ridgeview Behavioral Health Services’ Mobile Health Clinic will be in the Walmart parking lot in Oneida from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering integrated primary care and behavioral health. No insurance is not a problem. Call (866) 599-0466 for more information… The Scott Appalachian Industries Senior Center (Monticello Pike, Huntsville) offers a walking program, puzzles and games, and massage chairs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each weekday.
