Oneida scores come-from-behind win over Gap

ONEIDA | Two late goals lifted Oneida to a 4-2 win over an old rival, Cumberland Gap, in Tuesday’s season-opener at Jane Terry Hoffman Field.

Addison Cross scored the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute, and Ava Kate Billingsley added an insurance goal two minutes later, as the Lady Indians won in come-from-behind fashion against the Panthers.

Gap had scored first, putting a goal on the board just over five minutes into the match, and had never trailed until Cross’s goal in the final 10 minutes.

But Gap had retaken the lead before the half, scoring in the 37th minute to claim a 2-1 lead at the intermission.

Oneida’s tying goal came from Aleigha Harness with less than 20 minutes remaining. From there, the floodgates opened, as the Lady Indians tacked on two more goals to claim the season-opening win.

Oneida will be back at home on Thursday against Powell. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
