Scott County receives $100,000 industrial grant

HUNTSVILLE | Scott County has received a $100,000 site development grant from the TN Dept. of Economic & Community Development, Mayor Jerried Jeffers said Tuesday afternoon.

The grant was part of a $13 million round of funding announced by TNECD on Tuesday. The latest site development funding was split between 10 recipients. Locally, the grant was to the Industrial Development Board of Scott County for development of the property it owns at the Scott County Airport. The grant will be used for engineering and due diligence, according to TNECD.

The Morgan County Economic Development Board received $4.3 million for property clearing, site improvements, and other projects at the Morgan County East Industrial Park, and the Industrial Development Board of Roane County received $4 million for due diligence and property purchase at a site on Buttermilk Road.

Other grants were received by Montgomery County, Robertson County, Jackson, Nickajack, McMinnville, Sparta, and Lewisburg.

“Our administration has made significant investments to strengthen the competitiveness of communities across Tennessee, especially in our rural areas,” said Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee. “We appreciate the local leaders who are laying the groundwork for future economic development and positioning their communities to attract new investment and job creation.”

The TNECD grants are intended to help communities prepare industrial sites to achieve Select Tennessee site certification, which enhances opportunities to land economic development projects.
