THURSDAY WEATHER: Welcome to August…or, rather, October. But it’s going to feel more like August 1 than October 1. We’re expecting a high of about 86 degrees this afternoon. To put that into perspective, our average high on October 1 is 75 degrees. Our average high on August 1 is 85 degrees. To be fair, the lower humidity right now will make today feel much more comfortable than the first of August, but it is still going to be quite hot for this time of year. Tonight we’ll only drop to about 67 degrees as moisture levels build.

THE WEEKEND: It promises to be a rainy weekend as a frontal boundary stalls out just to our north, providing a mechanism for repeat rain chances with a very moist atmosphere in place. There’s an 80% chance of rain tomorrow, and rain will be likely Saturday and Sunday, too. Tomorrow’s rainfall will be primarily an afternoon threat. We should be dry for much of the morning with increasing rain chances in the afternoon. It’s still a bit early to know for sure what the weather will look like for Friday night football, but there’ll be at least a chance of rain. At this time, it looks like coverage of rain showers will be somewhat scattered during the early evening hours, so there’s hope that the weather will hold out until after the games are over. The weekend as a whole could bring us meaningful rainfall, though forecasting exactly how much will be impossible.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather and cool temperatures return early next week. We may struggle to get out of the 60s on Tuesday after dropping into the mid 40s Monday night. It’s going to be a very nice taste of fall. Temperatures will rebound as we go through next week, then there’s a lot of uncertainty about the evolution of the pattern. The American global model is showing a sustained cooldown next weekend; the European global is showing nothing of the sort, with temperatures in the 80s. We’ll see how it all plays out, but we’re getting into the time of year when 80-degree temperatures start to get tough to come by.
