Good Tuesday morning! We’ll see rain chances and lowering temperatures over the next couple of days, as our first real cold front in weeks invades the region. Today will bring a 50% chance of thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon hours, and a high of 83°. Tonight, rain will be likely with a low of 63°. Tomorrow will be about 76°, again with a 50% chance of thunderstorms.

We likely won’t see much rain across this two-day period. The bigger story will be the cooler temperatures, as we drop back into the mid 70s, and even the low 70s by the weekend.

THE WEEKEND: Drier weather returns for the weekend. We’ll only top out around 73° on Friday and Saturday, before a warming trend begins on Sunday. However, we won’t make it quite back to 80° on Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: The summer-like heat will return next week, though it remains to be seen to what degree. We’ll likely get back into the 80s for a few days, and some indications are that we could even push 90° again by late in the week. Again, the over-arching theme is that above-average temperatures will continue well into October, and perhaps beyond. We should see another cold front by the end of next week that again drives down temperatures.

TROPICAL WATCH: Tropical Storm Fay continues to spin in the Atlantic. It’s expected to dissipate over the next several days as it moves southwest, and will not be a threat to the U.S. Indications continue that a tropical storm could form in the Mid-Atlantic next week, and there are also signs of some mischief in the Gulf a couple of weeks out.

TODAY: The Scott Appalachian Industries Senior Center in Huntsville offers a walking program, puzzles and games, and massage chairs every week day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. … The Scott County Senior Citizens Center in Oneida will host exercise from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. … Pinnacle Resource Center’s food pantry (1513 Jeffers Road, Huntsville) will be open beginning at 9:15 a.m. There are no income guidelines; however, a photo ID and a piece of mail with a Scott County address are required … Boy Scout Troop #333 will meet at the Oneida War Memorial Building at 6 p.m. … Wall Builders will meet from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church (1611 Glass House Road, Helenwood) for those struggling with addiction or striving to keep off drugs … Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. at the Highway 27 Unity Club (17737 S.
