WEDNESDAY WEATHER: We’re moving into a wet-weather pattern today, as showers and thunderstorms become likely across the next several days. Over the next 4 days, our weather will be pretty much a carbon copy of the day before: temperatures in the mid 80s with plentiful chances of rain. It probably won’t rain a lot on any particular day, but rain chances will certainly be in the forecast every day. Nights will bring diminishing rain chances and humid temperatures in the upper 60s.

THE WEEKEND: Thunderstorms will remain likely on Saturday, but then the chances of rain should drop back to only slight on Sunday. Temperatures will begin to creep up this weekend, as well.

NEXT WEEK: Temperatures will push into the upper 80s next week — slightly above average for this time of year. Rain chances will be present, but not particularly high. Nighttime lows will only drop to about 70 to start the week, as we find ourselves in a very warm and muggy late-summer pattern. Rain chances will begin to increase again late next week.

RIVER CONDITIONS: Our soil moisture is quite high from all the rain we’ve had this summer, so it doesn’t take much to cause streamflows to increase. The Big South Fork River is flowing around 600 cubic feet per second (cfs), while Clear Fork is above 150 cfs. That’s above the 75th percentile in each location, meaning the river flows this high less than 25% of the time in early August. Water clarity is poor. Water temperatures will top out around 80 degrees today.

TROPICAL WATCH: No tropical storm formation is expected in the Atlantic for at least the next 7 days, as an extremely quiet hurricane season continues to unfold.

ON THE AGENDA: The Scott County Senior Citizens Center (Main Street, Oneida) will serve lunch today from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost is $7 for dine-in or carry-out. Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 12 p.m. at the Highway 27 Unity Club (17737 S. Alberta Street, Oneida). The Scott Appalachian Industries Senior Center in Huntsville will host Golden Grooves Exercise at 1 p.m.
