Good Wednesday morning! Here’s your middle-of-the-week #EyeToTheSky weather update: Rain will become likely this afternoon, with an 80% chance of showers. Some rumbles of thunder are also possible. Today’s activity will be scattered, and the Cumberland Plateau will be on the western fringe of the shortwave action that’s going to enhance rain chances, so there’s some uncertainty with regards to expected rainfall amounts. Otherwise, we’ll top out around 77 degrees today. Tonight, rain chances will gradually diminish as we drop to around 60 degrees.

There’s a 30% chance of additional rain showers tomorrow with a high of about 75 degrees.

THE WEEKEND: We’ll see drier weather this weekend. Friday through Sunday look mostly sunny, with high temperatures each day in the mid 70s. Pretty nice late September weather! Nighttime lows will be in the upper 40s.

NEXT WEEK: We’ll see a warming trend begin Monday, as we push close to 80 degrees. We’ll be back into the mid 80s by the middle of next week, so it’s going to feel more like summer than it will for the rest of this week. We won’t see much in the way of rain chances, either, as the same upper level ridging that brings us the hot temperatures also keeps rain chances at bay. Another cold front may impact the region at some point next weekend, around Oct. 4-5, which could bring another cooldown to the region. Overall, our weather is looking quite warm through the first week of October, at least, though we shouldn’t (and hopefully won’t) see a return of 90-degree temps.

TROPICAL WATCH: Way out in the Atlantic, Fay has weakened to a tropical depression and should continue to diminish. Another wave just off the coast of Africa has a chance to become a tropical cyclone in the days ahead, but isn’t expected to be a threat to the U.S. Closer to home, there is potential for a low pressure system to develop off the Mid-Atlantic coast that could cause some minor mischief, but it will not impact our area. All in all, an extremely quiet hurricane season continues for the Gulf Coast region.
