WINFIELD | Once the dust settles in November, the Town of Winfield will have a new mayor, and at least one new alderman.
Current Winfield Mayor Jerry Dodson is not seeking re-election. In his absence, two familiar names will seek the office: Bob Strunk and Doug Wilson Jr.
Additionally, incumbent alderman Harold Chambers has chosen not to seek re-election, guaranteeing at one new face on the town’s board of aldermen.
Incumbent alderman Melvin Stephens is seeking re-election. Joining him on the ballot will be Cody Cox and Robyn McBroom. Voters will elect two persons to the board of aldermen.
Stephens is a banker and minister. Cox is a Tractor Supply Co. manager who attempted to run against Kelly Keisling for the Republican nomination for state representative but was not permitted on the ballot by the state Republican Party for technical reasons. McBroom is the long-time former town recorder who is currently wrapping up a term on Scott County Commission after choosing not to seek re-election to that board.
Wilson is also a current alderman in Winfield. If his election bid for mayor is successful, a vacancy would be declared for his seat on the board of aldermen. It would be filled by the remainder of the board, with the appointment serving the remainder of the term, until it expires in two years, according to Scott County Administrator of Elections Gabe Krahn.
The Winfield election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3. The early voting period will be Oct. 14 to Oct. 29. The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 5.
