KODAK, Tenn. | The 11th annual Dixie Roofing Clays for Children Sporting Clays Tournament raised $137,000 to support abused and neglected children across the 8th Judicial District, Attorney General Jared Effler said Monday.
The two-day tournament, held Oct. 1-2 at Iron Mountain Sporting Clays in Kodak, drew 159 teams and 592 individual shooters, making it one of the largest sporting clays tournaments in the nation.
Effler and his staff hosted the event in partnership with the Children’s Centers of the 8th Judicial District, which serves Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott and Union counties.
The children’s centers serve hundreds of children each year, working closely with local law enforcement agencies and the district attorney general’s office to assist victims of abuse and neglect. Services include medical examinations, forensic interviews, counseling and assistance with court proceedings.
The centers play a critical role in helping young victims navigate the criminal justice system while connecting them with resources and support services.
Effler credited the tournament’s success to the many volunteers, sponsors and participants who helped organize and support the event.
“It takes an army of people to engineer an event of this magnitude,” Effler said. “From the bottom of my heart, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who made the 11th Annual Dixie Roofing Clays for Children Sporting Clays Tournament a tremendous success!”
The $137,000 raised through this year’s tournament will help the children’s centers continue providing services to abused and neglected children throughout the five-county district.
Organizers said planning is already underway for next year’s tournament.
